Moo House at Borst Family Dairy

Wanting to help everyday folks learn where their food comes from, our family decided to open Borst Family Dairy to all of you via Moo House. Moo House provides on farm experiences such as farm tours, home raised beef, and ice cream with cows.

*** We are currently NOT offering farm tours or ice cream nights on the farm. We hope to do this again in the future. Please watch this website and our social channels for updates in upcoming events***

Our Story

People

Moo House is located on Borst Family Dairy. In 1946 Elbert and Elbert Jr. Borst began milking 20 cows by hand. Today the 3rd and 4th generations of Borst dairy farmers and their families milk 230 Holstein cows in a modern milking parlor. Producing wholesome dairy products for a growing world population is a privilege and a responsibility. We love farming and are thankful to be able to do what we love 365 days a year (because cows don’t take days off). Moo House’s mission is to help connect you to where your food comes from.

Land

Our land is a precious resource that feeds our cows, us and you! Half our land is used to feed our cows and the other is used to grow a variety of food crops. Our cows return the favor by helping to provide nutrients via a steady supply of cow pies that go back to the fields. As stewards of the land, sustaining health of our soil, water and air is our responsibility. Our future depends on our land to feed our families, our cows and the world.

Cows

Helping our cows live their best life is our number one priority. Our Holstein cows (those are the black and white ones) are milked twice a day, have a buffet of delicious home grown feed available to them 24/7, and get to lay on a beach all day in sand bedded stalls. Fun fact: Cows spend 12-14 hours of their day resting. We raise all our own heifers (a cow that hasn’t had a calf yet) from birth until they are ready to have their first calf, which is usually around 2 years old. That’s when cows first start to produce milk and enter the milking herd.

Got Questions?

Do you have questions about how your milk gets from our cows to your table? JUST ASK! Our family has worked for 4 generations to put food on your table. We have experts in all areas of agriculture (both cows and crop farming). Our cows are lucky enough to have a full time veterinarian looking after them who also loves to answer questions. Following us on any of our social platforms (Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok) are also great ways to see what day to day life is like on a dairy farm.
